Our Shelter

Aconcagua Star operates a refuge called “La Roca de Vallecitos” located at an elevation of 3000 meters above sea level in the Cordón del Plata Provincial Park, Mendoza. It is situated in close proximity to the Aconcagua Provincial Park.

This refuge serves as an ideal base for acclimatization and climbing mountains up to 6000 meters.

It offers 12 beds and comprehensive lodging services. We offer a very good Wi-Fi service, enabling those who need to work from their phones or computers (home office / shelter office) while acclimatizing at 3000m.

Sometimes, it is used as a starting point for acclimatization to Aconcagua, allowing climbers to adapt to the altitude in a different location before heading to the main mountain. This adds color and excitement to the expedition experience.

How did Aconcagua Star come about?

Aconcagua Star is a small family-owned company founded by two renowned mountain guides, Arkaitz Ibarra Martinez and Pablo Gasparini.

After many years, almost a lifetime, of experience and climbs in the Andes, we decided to organize expeditions on our own, avoiding intermediaries and being able to implement our philosophy of the mountains and what it means to be a guide.

FAQS

Welcome to Aconcagua Star, a company created by its own guides who will be here to answer your questions from your first contact with the company until we attempt to take you to the summit and ensure your safe return to your home countries.

That’s why we can offer cost-effective packages without intermediaries. We also want to help you avoid unnecessary expenses, which is why we include essential services within the expedition. However, we will provide guidance and recommendations if you choose to arrange additional services according to your personal preferences, such as pre and post-expedition hotels in Mendoza, airport transfers, and porters, among others.

We are passionate mountaineers who strive for reaching the summit. Therefore, we will exhaust every possibility to help you achieve your goals while prioritizing your safety above all else. We look forward to sharing this beautiful mountain journey with you.

Our expedition includes two of the most important mountains in the Andes: Aconcagua and Vallecitos.

We will begin with acclimatization in the Cordón del Plata Provincial Park and then continue to the Aconcagua Provincial Park to attempt the ascent of the highest peak in America, Aconcagua (see itinerary).

  • Advice and support in everything that the expedition entails
  • Transfer from the airport to the Mendoza Hotel will be arranged the day before the expedition begins.
  • Transfer Mendoza / Vallecitos, Vallecitos / Horcones (Aconcagua), Horcones / Mendoza
  • Meals: All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) during the expedition, from arrival in Vallecitos until returning to Horcones. Abundant and varied meals. Vegetarian if necessary.
  • Advice to hire a permit to the Aconcagua Provincial Park
  • General expedition equipment: tents, kitchen equipment, first aid kit, communication equipment (VHF radios), etc.
  • Refuge in Vallecitos, Cordón del Plata Provincial Park
  • Base Camp Service: domes and tents to eat and sleep. Bathrooms.
  • Mules: to and from base camp.
  • Professional Guides: ratio of 1 guide to 3 participants.
  • Extra days
  • General equipment porters: tents, kitchen equipment and most importantly expedition food and water.
  • Training plan

We leave some services (which are not essential) to your choice, in any case we will be available and we will give you some recommendations so that you can hire what you need. Does not include:

  • The post-expedition hotel is not included.
  • Permit to enter the park (personal procedure)
  • Expedition abandonment expenses (see return policy)
  • Personal porters
  • Personal equipment
  • Extra expenses: meals and drinks not included in the package and other services not specified as included

Our main goal is to ofer expeditions with all the essential services included.

We also care that you reach the summit. As mountaineers and guides we know that you mainly seek to reach the summit, so our itinerary is designed for this, we will exhaust all the possibilities for you to achieve it (always safety first).
In our low-cost program, we will acclimatize on another hill called Cerro Vallecitos (5500 masl) within the Cordón del Plata Provincial Park, one of the most beautiful places in the province of Mendoza.

  • We include food and water at altitude camps within the expedition porters: many times we arrive at the summit very tired from having carried heavy backpacks the previous days. For this reason, we include high-altitude food within the expedition porters (in addition to tents, high-altitude kitchen and all personal equipment). On some occasions, in the high altitude fields there is no water available, we take care of getting it to you. This means that you should only carry your personal equipment in your backpacks (it should not exceed 10/12 kg).
  • Advice on personal porters: in addition to conventional porters (20 kg) we also have mini porters (10 kg) available to hire if necessary and thus reduce the cost of the expedition.
  • Meals: in the high altitude camps all our meals will be freeze-dried (meals with calories according to physical requirements and good digestion). In the base camps we will have base camp services issued by the company, and as is the tradition, after our first summit we will eat barbecue in our refuge to celebrate.
  • 3 extra days of backup: we will seek to attempt the summit on the most appropriate day, both for the weather and for the physicality of the participants. We are constantly checking the weather and we have extra days to wait for the most stable day possible.

The minimum number of our low-cost expeditions through the normal route is 6 people, with a maximum of 10 people. The guide/client ratio for the summit is 1 (one) guide for every 3 (three) clients, being able to hire extra assistants according to personal taste.

In case of abandonment of the expedition or separation from the main group, the person begins to use private services (mules, guides, transportation, etc.), which generate an extra expense for them. Faced with this unfortunate situation, we will try to help and advise as much as possible so that the expenses are minimal, but it will be the person who has to pay these expenses. They will have a regular bus covered by the company from Horcones (entrance to the park) to Mendoza Capital

Throughout the expedition it is important to stay hydrated and well fed. One of the main symptoms of high altitude is a lack of appetite, which is why it is important to eat tasty and high-calorie meals. In the high altitude camps, all our meals will be freeze-dried (meals with calories according to physical requirements and good digestion). In the base camps we will have base camp services issued by the company, and as is the tradition, after our first summit we will eat barbecue in our refuge to celebrate.

We are also great connoisseurs of the entire Andes mountain range. In Argentina we have 10 hills of +6500 masl, within them is the highest volcano in the world, the Ojos del Salado Volcano with 6891 masl. We carry out private expeditions to each of these hills, for more information, contact us via email.
An interesting fact: El Vasco, the company’s main guide, is the first mountaineer to climb the 10 hills, doing them in winter.
